Insider’s Guide to Cuba

No, this is not the post where I tell all about my trip to Cuba. I haven’t found the patience to sit long enough to write about it yet.

But, one of the photos I took in Cuba was just published in a travel magazine called Glimpse. They sent me a copy of the issue and the article, “Insider’s Guide to Cuba,” is actually pretty good. Along with some history and factual information, it also features impressions gathered by American students visiting Cuba, and even has step-by-step instructions on how to Rumba.

My photo is on page thirty-two in the section on music. I took it in Santa Clara’s city center (Parque Vidal) during a flamenco performance by a group calling itself La Casa del Trompo. Santa Clara hosted free performances each night that week and it seemed like everyone came out to listen to the music and watch the dancers. Pretty cool, really.

Where I’ve been, Where I’m going

While it’s true that I’ve worked unusually long hours the last few weeks and I took a short vacation out of the country, there are other factors at work to explain why I haven’t written more than 100 words in a single sitting in months. Lately, outside of my day job, I’ve just let laziness and apathy get the better of me.

I fully intend to write about my recent trip to Cuba for anyone who would care to read it. Soon. Soonish.

Meanwhile, you can see all 400-something photos from the trip that I’ve uploaded to Flickr.

Things that have kept me busy this month

To sum up the month of April:

  • I went to Seattle to visit Harry and Kathleen and my nephew, Charlie. My mom also visited them the same weekend. Good times.
  • At work, I got a bonus, a good performance review and a raise.
  • Saw Muse at the Great Western Forum with Kent, Tara, and her sister, Brooke. Excellent show. Read on »

I smell ice cream.

Last night we took a cable car from our hotel at Market and Powell down to Fisherman’s Wharf for dinner. After walking around for a bit, we found an Italian restaurant called Cioppino’s or something. I had the linguini aglio olio, pasta with garlic, sun-dried tomatoes, olives, basil, olive oil, etc. Mighty tasty. Read on »
