Quote of the Week

Dance like it hurts,
Love like you need money,
Work when people are watching.

Party like it’s 1989

For the last couple hours of work on Friday evenings, my company gives us pizza and beer and we’re just supposed to play games the rest of the night. This usually means video games, although some people play card games or socialize or just continue working. Tonight I convinced a handful of my coworkers to join me outside for a game of 4 Square, which none of us have played since we were kids. Some had never played at all.

At first I think they were just humoring me when I brought a regulation 8.5 inch kick ball and some sidewalk chalk to mark out the squares. But once we started playing, we were having so much fun that no one wanted to quit. We declared “last round” three or four times before we actually meant it. Everyone said they already can’t wait till next Friday to play again.

I took some bad photos, which you can find here.

In case you’re wondering, we more or less followed the International 4-Square League rules, but our squares were less than regulation.

Six things.

According to MW, I have been “tagged” and must list six weird things about myself. Whatever. But just for fun, and because it follows my last post logically, I will oblige.

  1. When I was younger, I used to record Soul Train and Club MTV to learn dance moves. I believe this was advice from my older brother.
  2. I like to put pretzels in ice cream.
  3. I have memories from when I was 2 years old, and maybe a little younger.
  4. Not sure if this is all that weird, but in college, I flew to Wichita, Kan. for a CD release concert by my then favorite band. I had no place to stay, but ran into a guy I’d met one day in Tennessee a few months prior. He was now the band’s manager and I ended up staying the night with their booking agent.
  5. RH and I are still playing the “Change one letter” game she sent out in an email back in August.
  6. I once attended a Benny Hinn crusade.

Since I didn’t follow the rules about posting the rules, I also will not follow the rules about tagging anyone else.

Five things.

An ordered list to express what I don’t feel like writing about:

  1. I love my friends.
  2. I love the way my company works and I love what I do.
  3. I love the weather.
  4. I love food.
  5. I loved the Cold War Kids concert but would like all very tall people to stand in the back in the future.
