Book sales and banana splits.

Last night, I turned one of the saddest parts of moving across the country on a limited budget into one of the most enjoyable.

What’s so sad about it? Only that I have to get rid of most of my books. I packed up four small- to medium-sized boxes with my favorites and the rest I decided would have to go to Half Price Books to be sold. When I mentioned this to someone (I believe it was Leslie), she suggested I have a book sale. Sounded like fun, so I said oll korrect. (Nope, doesn’t work, Harry.) I said OK.

Later, I mentioned the book sale idea to the other Rachel, who said, “No, it can’t just be a book sale. You’ve got make it a … a book sale … and a banana split party!”

And that’s exactly what I did. It was so great. About ten or so friends showed up and browsed through my books while I tried to answer their questions about my favorite authors, which books I recommended and why, and how much I wanted for them. And then we made banana splits. Yum.

Thanks, friends, for sharing a fun evening with me.
